Bikini wax vs. Brazilian wax
If you are reading this blog today, I am going to assume that you already know at least a little bit about waxing. You know that waxing is a very effective way to remove unwanted hair from the body. You probably already know that there are a few different kinds of wax: soft wax, hard wax, and sugar wax. So, today I am going to talk about the differences between traditional or basic bikini waxing and Brazilian waxing.
Similarities between Bikini and Brazilian Waxes
Both styles of waxes have a lot in common. First and foremost, you are applying wax to remove unwanted hair in the genital region. Second, the skin in the area being waxed is prepped the same way. Wax is applied in the direction of hair growth and removed in the opposite direction. Sometimes an area will be treated more than one time to ensure that every possible hair is removed. This will depend on the brand and type of wax. Not all manufacturers recommend waxing over an area that has already been waxed. Some estheticians will also use tweezers to tweeze out lone hairs that still need to be removed.
Lastly, when the waxing service has been completed, finishing products will be applied to remove any wax residue left on the skin. Also, products to calm and cool the area will be applied to help with client comfort.
Traditional Basic Bikini Wax
A basic bikini wax is just that. It is basic. This service is especially appealing to women who have never been waxed before, because they are unsure what to expect from a waxing service. It is also appealing to women who are tired of shaving their bikini line, but are embarrassed to see hair peeking out from their panties or bathing suit bottom.
In a traditional bikini wax, the hair falling outside the panty line at the hip/leg juncture is removed. Most estheticians will also remove about ½” of hair just inside this line also. For myself, and the other waxing technicians at Linde Esthetics, we will also wax to create a clean straight line at the top of the bikini area. Not included in the cost of a bikini wax is the upper leg. For a lot of women, there can be significant hair growth there too. This area can be added for an additional charge.
Brazilian Wax
There are so many different versions of a Brazilian wax. Some people consider a Brazilian wax a landing strip on the pubic mound but all hair removed from the pelvic floor and the anus. Others consider it leaving an inverted triangle shaped like a Dorito chip or a small square like a postage stamp on the pubic mound, but removing all other hair in the pelvic region.
There is also a Full Bush Brazilian. Yep. You read that correctly. This is when a “full bush” is left on the pubic mound, but all other hairs are removed, even the hairs on the bum. Lastly, sometimes called a Hollywood Brazilian, this service removes ALL hair in the pelvic region. 100% of the hair is gone, both in front and in back.
At Linde Esthetics, we will do whatever style of Brazilian wax you choose. It makes no difference to us. We will leave as much or as little hair as you want. Approximately 90% of the clients we see in our waxing studio decide to receive a Hollywood Brazilian Wax, but the choice is always yours.
A Betweeny wax
A what? A betweeny was is a bikini wax that falls somewhere between a traditional bikini wax and a Brazilian wax. This waxing services is customized to meet the needs of the client. For some clients, it could be just a bit more than our basic bikini. For others, it could be just a little shy of a Hollywood Brazilian. So if you are sure you want more than a bikini wax, but not sure if you are quite ready for a Brazilian wax, I would highly suggest a betweeny bikini wax.
