The awesome power of light

Light spectrum

Have you ever wondered how light can impact your health? Light therapy has gained popularity for its healing benefits, and Red Light Therapy (RLT) leads the charge. Using specific wavelengths, RLT penetrates deep into the skin to promote cell regeneration, reduce inflammation, and ease pain.

Physical and Non-Physical Effects of Light

Light therapy can be confusing, with many similar terms floating around. Let’s break them down:

  • Phototherapy: Using light to treat physical or mental illnesses.
  • Photobiomodulation (PBM): Applying red and near-infrared light to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and strengthen the immune system.
  • Low-Level Light Therapy: A specific form of PBM.
  • Red Light Therapy: Another form of PBM, targeting deeper tissue healing.
  • Chromotherapy: This color therapy suggests different wavelengths hold unique therapeutic properties. Scientific studies back this, showing that each color offers distinct health and beauty benefits.

LED Light Therapy at LEWS

In 2014, Linde Esthetics introduced LED Light Therapy to its services. This innovative treatment is included in custom facials. Each color penetrates the skin at different levels for specific effects. Red light is popular for anti-aging, while blue light fights bacteria on the skin’s surface, helping acne-prone clients.

Although at-home devices are available, our in-office treatments use stronger light for more noticeable results. In fall 2023, we upgraded to a full-body red light system to improve the treatment of both sides of the body simultaneously.

Achieving Optimal Results

Results from LED light therapy vary based on individual needs. Minor injuries might require only a few sessions, while chronic conditions could need 3-5 treatments weekly for several months. After reaching the desired results, monthly maintenance helps sustain progress.

Who Should Avoid LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those:

  • Taking medications that increase sunlight sensitivity (e.g., isotretinoin, lithium)
  • With certain cancers or inherited eye diseases
