How does our Red Light Therapy compare to that at the local tanning salon?

Not all Red Light is the same

If your only concern is to improve skin health or skin conditions, most red light therapy businesses will be able to meet your needs. To address other concerns: pain management, reduced inflammation, better sleep, mental clarity, relaxation, and muscle recovery, red light therapy with both visible red light and near-infrared will need to be used.

Our team conducted extensive research before introducing Red Light Therapy to Linde Esthetics. The market offers a vast array of light units, ranging from handheld devices to capsule-type red light beds. The challenge was to select the right one. Our objective was to find a device that would cater not only to the needs of our current skincare clients but also to people seeking pain relief, mood enhancement, wound healing, and muscle recovery.

After gaining a better understanding of the potential benefits of red light therapy, we began researching what was offered in our local market. During our investigation, we discovered that red light devices typically fall into one of three categories.

  • The first category is contouring light, a 635nm red light therapy that uses four large pads. These pads are applied directly to the skin for up to 30 minutes to aid in fat loss.
  • The second category includes LED or fluorescent capsule-style beds that leverage 630nm-660nm wavelengths to improve skin health. This is the type of red light system you will find in most tanning salons and chain gyms.
  • The third category comprises red light beds, panels, or capsule-style beds that utilize red and near-infrared light to treat multiple concerns. This is what we decided to use. Visible red light benefits the skin while near-infrared light penetrates deeper into the body and benefits muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, and internal organs.

The red light therapy bed and canopy combination at Linde Esthetics incorporates five red and NIR wavelengths: 630nm, 660nm, 810nm, 830nm, and 850nm. The red light spectrum extends from approximately 620 nm to 750 nm. The red light wavelengths that have the most scientifically proven benefits are 630 nm and 660 nm. Near-infrared starts at 750 nanometers and extends all the way to 1,200 nm. Near-infrared wavelengths that have been scientifically proven to yield benefits for humans include the 810 nm, 830 nm, and 850 nm wavelengths.

  • 630nm– is ideal for targeting all manner of skin issues
  • 660nm– promotes healing and regeneration, is anti-inflammatory, reduces pain and swelling, accelerates wound healing
  • 810nm– enhances muscular performance and post-exercise recovery, accelerates wound healing, encourages hair growth, and an array of neurological benefits
  • 830nm– increases the release of endorphins, improves bone repair, and hastens recovery after surgery
  • 850nm– amplifies 810nm and 830nm benefits, enhances muscle recovery, and supports the production of collagen

FAQ’s

Do red light therapy beds tan you?

Red light has no UV rays, so it will NOT produce a tan. Red light therapy does enhance the tanning process within your skin.

Is red light therapy safe?

Red light therapy is safe, non-invasive, and generally doesn’t have side effects; although if you are taking photosensitizing drugs or are sensitive to light, you’ll need to talk to your doctor before using it.

Do I have to undress completely?

Clothes protect the skin from UV light. Clothes also protect the skin from red and near-infrared light. During red light therapy, it is best to have as much bare skin as possible. But if you prefer to keep your clothes on, that’s okay. You will still receive some benefits from the therapy. Just remember that the effectiveness of the light will be reduced by your clothing.

How long is a red light therapy session?

Most sessions last 8-11 minutes. The duration of your treatment sessions will depend on your conditions and your treatment plan. Your skin and body differ from everyone else’s, so your plan will be based on your specific needs.

How many sessions will I need?

You can expect visible results from just one session of red light therapy! However, to see the best possible results from red light therapy, you must follow the course as directed by your practitioner. It should be noted that every person responds differently to red light therapy. The duration of your treatment sessions will depend on your condition and the effectiveness of your treatment plan. While some people report seeing results after just one session, most people need multiple treatments to see the full effects of this powerful technology. Research has shown that red light therapy treatments are most effective when used regularly over some time—in other words, daily or twice daily sessions for several weeks or months will yield better results than fewer sessions spread out over time.

How do I schedule a red light therapy session?

The best way to schedule your session is to use the Vagaro booking app. You will be required to complete the Red Light Therapy Questionnaire. The information you provide enables us to confirm you are a good candidate for red light therapy.
