Is Your Skincare Routine Ready for Fall?

The Midwest’s Changing Seasons Mean Your Skin Needs Change Too

If you’re standing in front of your bathroom mirror wondering why your skin is suddenly dry, sensitive, or just “not itself”—you’re not alone. As summer fades and fall settles in, our skin starts sending signals. Maybe your moisturizer isn’t enough anymore, or your face feels tight when the heater kicks on. Seasonal changes, especially here in Springfield, Missouri (and across the Ozarks), mean it’s time to switch gears for a healthier glow.

My Honest Skincare Journey: From Bar Soap to Barrier Repair

I learned about seasonal skincare the hard way. Back in my teens, I used whatever was on the bathroom counter, usually Dove bar soap. Moisturizer was rarely available, and sunscreen barely existed in my home. My mom, part of the Choctaw tribe, had beautifully dark skin and rarely worried about burns. But with my very fair complexion (Fitzpatrick I-II), I wish I’d known that UV damage adds up fast, bringing fine lines, discoloration, and uneven skin later on.

It wasn’t until adulthood that I realized skin care was needed, but doesn’t have to be complicated. My first “real” routine was simple:

  • Cleanser (one made for faces, finally)
  • Hydrator
  • Sunscreen

That was it, and that was enough at the time. Over the years, professional training and hands-on experience with hundreds of clients taught me that skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be intentional.

Why “Seasonal Skincare Routine” Matters

Think of your skincare like your wardrobe — you wouldn’t wear sandals and a sundress in January, right? The same goes for your products.

When cold weather moves into the Ozarks, the humidity drops, heaters crank up, your skin’s barrier starts losing moisture faster than it can replace it. If you keep using your lightweight summer products, here’s what can happen: your skin gets dehydrated, tight, and flaky. The barrier weakens, your microbiome gets cranky, and before you know it, breakouts, redness, and irritation show up uninvited.

But here’s the good news: if you swap out those foaming gel cleansers and lightweight moisturizers for creamier, more hydrating options, you can maintain the integrity of your skin and microbiome. That means strong, comfortable, radiant skin — not that dull, reactive feeling we all dread when the weather turns.

Let me give you an example:
Last year, one of my clients had her skincare routine dialed in. Her skin was chef’s kiss — hydrated, balanced, healthy. Then November hit. Within weeks, her skin started to feel dry and tight. Little flakes appeared around her nose and chin. Then came the breakouts — not from “dirty” skin, but from dehydration.

We sat down, went through her routine, and realized the issue wasn’t her products — it was the season. We swapped her foaming cleanser for a creamy one and added a hydrating serum to help strengthen her barrier. Within just a couple of weeks, her skin was back on track.

So, if you’re suddenly feeling like your products “aren’t working anymore,” it’s not you. It’s the season. Your skin just needs a few thoughtful adjustments to thrive.

This Is How I Do It

I keep my skincare routine uncomplicated but intentional. Every product I use has a purpose, and I choose formulas that support what my skin needs right now, not what it needed six months ago. By paying attention to the changes in my skin and the weather, I can make small, smart adjustments that keep my skin hydrated, calm, and balanced all year long. This approach helps me avoid the frustration of breakouts, flakiness, or irritation that often comes from using the wrong products for the season.

It’s not about having a 20-step routine or chasing the latest trend. It’s about being consistent, using high-quality ingredients, and giving your skin what it needs to stay strong and resilient—no matter what the forecast says.

My Warm Weather Routine: Simple, Effective, and Seasonal

During the warmer months, I keep things light and breathable. My warm weather routine has been:

Morning

Lipid Replacing Cleansing Gel – Gentle foaming cleanse that refreshes without stripping the skin.
Blueberry & White Tea Hydrating Mist – Boosts hydration and antioxidants for a fresh, balanced start.
Vitamin C Reversal Serum – Brightens, firms, and protects against environmental stress.
Light Day Sunscreen SPF 37 – Lightweight daily protection that keeps skin safe year-round.

Evening

Lipid Replacing Cleansing Gel – Removes impurities and makeup while maintaining skin comfort.
Blueberry & White Tea Hydrating Mist – Restores hydration after cleansing and preps for treatment serums.
Serum 71 – Deep hydration and antioxidant repair while you sleep.
Revita-Cyte Complex – Supports overnight rejuvenation and healthy skin renewal.

It’s a routine that balances hydration and protection—perfect for heat, humidity, and longer days in the sun. But as fall settles in here in the Ozarks, the air gets drier and the heaters start clicking on. That means it’s time to give my skin a little extra love and protection.

My Fall into Winter Skincare Routine

This autumn, my focus is brightening and hydration—fading hyper-pigmentation while keeping my barrier strong and supple. Here’s what that looks like for me:

Morning:

  • Amandola Milk Cleanser – Gentle exfoliation and brightening without dryness.
  • Vitamin C Reversal Serum – Daily antioxidant protection.
  • Blueberry & White Tea Hydrating Mist – Hydration and antioxidant support.
  • Light Day Sunscreen SPF 37 – Because sunscreen season never ends.

Evening:

  • Amandola Milk Cleanser – Can also be used as a brightening mask.
  • Blueberry & White Tea Hydrating Mist – Restores hydration after cleansing and preps for treatment serums.
  • Bright White Serum – Targeted dark spot treatment.
  • Serum 71 – Deep hydration and barrier repair.
  • White Veil Brightener – Overall brightening support.

Pro Tip: On days when my skin feels a little extra parched (or the heater has been running nonstop), I’ll add a light layer of Post Peel Balm at night for extra nourishment.
