Red Light Therapy can help stimulate cellular rejuvenation, increase blood flow, stimulate collagen, and fight free radical damage.
What is Red Light Therapy?
According to WebMD, Red light therapy (RLT) is a treatment that may help skin, muscle tissue, and other parts of your body heal. It exposes you to low levels of red or near-infrared light. Infrared light is a type of energy your eyes can’t see, but your body can feel as heat. Red light is similar to infrared, but you can see it.
RRLT is also called low-level laser therapy (LLLT), low-power laser therapy (LPLT), and photobiomodulation (PBM).
How does Red Light Therapy work?
When delivered within the optimal wavelengths and energy levels, red and near-infrared light protect your body’s cells from nitric oxide damage, which can otherwise stop the cell’s production of ATP when you’re stressed or ill. Red light photons allow your cells to continue utilizing oxygen effectively by minimizing the absorption of nitric oxide. RLT can reach into a cell’s mitochondria to stimulate healing and regeneration to help improve your appearance, performance, and overall well-being.
RLT may work to:
- Stimulate collagen production, which gives skin its structure, strength, and elasticity.
- Increase fibroblast production, which makes collagen.
- Increase blood circulation to the tissue.
- Reduce inflammation in cells.
What are the benefits of using RLT?
REDUCE PAIN
- Eases joint stiffness and soreness
- Diminishes inflammation
- Reduces muscle spasms and increases blood flow
REDUCE INFLAMMATION
- Soothes sore muscles, joint pain, and arthritis
- Eases symptoms associated with autoimmune diseases, spinal cord, and traumatic brain injuries
PROMOTE CELLULAR HEALTH
- Stimulates collagen production
- Strengthens hair and improves skin elasticity
- Promotes connective tissue health
IMPROVED SKIN HEALTH
- Generates production of collagen
- Increased tissue repair
- Reduction in appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars
PROMOTE CELLULAR HEALTH
- Stimulates collagen production
- Strengthens hair and improves skin elasticity
- Promotes connective tissue health
IMPROVE CIRCULATION
- Dilates blood vessels for increased flow
- Protects red blood cells and platelets
Are There Any Risks To RLT?
RLT uses very low levels of heat that do not hurt or burn the skin. Unlike tanning booths, RLT won’t expose skin to damaging UV rays. In general, there are no major side effects of red light therapy. However, individuals who have a condition with photosensitivity like lupus, or those who are on medications that make them photosensitive shouldn’t use red light therapy. Pregnant women may wish to steer clear for now because red light therapy hasn’t been well studied in relation to pregnancy.
Like all services and modalities at Linde Esthetics, Red Light Therapy can be an effective tool when used consistently.
